Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Curacao, Netherlands Antilles!
The islands of Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba in the northerly Leeward Islands, and Bonaire and Curacao in the southerly Windward Islands comprise the Netherlands Antilles, an independent state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Anyone speaking English or Spanish will be in familiar territory here, although the native language is the Creole dialect Papiamento, and the official written language is still Dutch. Curacao's cultural roots are in the 17th century, when Pieter Stuyvesant ruled the colony. The island was more identifiably Dutch than it is today, and much of the architecture still standing today was constructed then. If you venture away from the capital city of Willemstad, you will find a country side similar to that of Aruba, also near the South American coast. The old Dutch windmills turning in the continuous sea breeze, making that gentle, haunting noise both in the capital and scattered around the country side, are a unique stamp that somehow always will protect the sanctity of this corner of the Caribbean in the face of whatever further erosions urbanization may bring.
